Getting started with the .btag.it tracking method

The .btag.it tracking method is a legacy feature. Although this feature is still functional, we recommend users set up their mail clients with our SMTP Relay Tracking method. Setup instructions for the SMTP Relay are available on our Help Center.

Tracking an email using the .btag.it method is simple, and is supported by all email clients.

To track an email to john@acme.com simply add .btag.it to the end of the email, so it reads john@acme.com.btag.it – that's it! Your email will be tracked and sent, and the .btag.it added to the email address will be removed once the email reaches your recipient's inbox.

Note: The .btag.it method is an email relay service which differs significantly from our browser extensions for Gmail and our Outlook Addin. To use this method, you need to sync your mail server with Send Direct to your Bananatag account. This is necessary to prevent your tracked emails from landing in your recipient's spam folder.

It is also very important to note that the .btag.it method only supports a single recipient and does not support CC recipients. If you have multiple recipients or have CC'd or BCC'd an email with .btag.it added to the address, it is exposed to all recipients.

If you’d like to track emails without these restrictions, please use our Browser Extension for Gmail or our Outlook addin, or set up your client through the SMTP Relay feature.
