Track emails with Apple iOS Mail using Email Relay

By configuring your iOS Mail through Bananatag’s Email Relay, you can track outgoing emails from your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad without the need for any additional apps.

Setup is simple. To start, you will need a Bananatag account, which is available for free at

STEP 1: Once you've created have your account, log in to Bananatag, click on your Account Icon in the top-right corner of your dashboard, select Settings and Email Relay.

STEP 3: Open your Mail, Contacts, Calendars Settings found in the default Settings app
STEP 4: Select Add Account

STEP 5:  Select Other, as iOS requires this to be set up manually, and then Add Mail Account on the screen that follows

STEP 6:  Enter your Name, Email and Password. You may choose to include the word "Tracked" or "Bananatag" in the Description field to mark that this account will track your emails:

STEP 7: On the following screen, enter your incoming mail server details as usual. Under Outgoing Mail Server Host Name, enter the Sever Name provided for your Bananatag account in the first step (SMTP server), followed by your User Name (Bananatag user name) and Password (from your Bananatag SMTP settings), and then press Next
STEP 8: Press Save
STEP 9: If you had an account set up for the same email address in iOS already (without tracking), you can delete it from the main Mail Settings menu. This will prevent duplicate emails addresses from showing in the Mail app, and ensure all emails are tracked.

Your iOS mail is now set up with Bananatag, and your sent emails will be automatically tracked. You will receive an email notification when your emails are opened, as well as notifications when any links in your emails are clicked.

For users on a free plan, your first 5 emails each day will be tracked. All emails beyond this will not be tracked. If you require more daily tags, you can upgrade your Bananatag plan. More information on SMTP Relay in iOS Mail can be found on our help center.
